Reporting COVID-19 Test Results:

All students (undergraduate, graduate, and adult students) residing or taking coursework on campus are required to have a PCR COVID-19 test done prior to arrival on campus. 

  • If you have negative test results, upload them to the Marist Health Services Patient Portal using the following link: https://marist.medicatconnect.com. Follow the simple directions to report your results to the College. 
  • If you have positive test results, DO NOT come to campus. Upload your test results to the Marist Health Services Patient Portal using the following link: https://marist.medicatconnect.com and consult your personal healthcare provider immediately. A member of the Marist College Health Services team will contact you after reviewing your results on the portal. Anyone who tests positive may not travel to campus until they are cleared by Marist Health Services.
  • Please note: It typically takes 24-48 hours from the time you upload test results to receive a “cleared to come to campus” indication in your student portal in MyMarist.

Surveillance Testing

Students

Q: What do I do if I’ve been called to test on a day that I don’t have to be on campus or I have a conflict?

A: If you are unable to participate in testing on the day (or time) you have been scheduled, you have the flexibility to test within the allotted testing window. 

There is no need to reschedule or contact anyone if you participate in testing within the testing window. 

Q: Do I have to participate in testing if I have already been vaccinated?

A: No. While you are welcome to continue to participate in scheduled surveillance testing, you are not required to do so.

Q: Should I participate in surveillance testing if I have tested positive?

A: If you have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days, then you are exempt from participating in surveillance testing.  Marist Health Services must be notified of the date of your positive test result in order for you to stop receiving the notification emails and be exempt from participating. Supporting medical documentation may be requested. You will automatically begin to receive the notification emails from the surveillance team when you are once again eligible to test. 

Faculty and Staff

Q: If I am using “Focused” inbox, will the messages from COVIDsurveillance.testing@marist.edu show up on the “Focused” or “Other” tab in my inbox?

A: Marist Information Technology has marked all e-mails from COVIDsurveillance.testing@marist.edu as a “Focused” e-mail.

Q: Do I have to participate in testing if I am working remotely?

A: Fully remote employees do not need to participate in surveillance testing.  However, in order to be exempt from participating, you must have prior approval from the vice president of your area or the Office of Human Resources (through the accommodation process).

Q: I’ve been called to test on a day that I don’t work or I have a conflict?

Q: Will I be paid to test?

A: Employees are expected to test during their regularly scheduled hours.  If you are called to test during a time you will not be on campus or are not working, you have the flexibility to report for testing at another time within your scheduled hours.  Exceptions will be paid in accordance with College policy and/or the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

Q: Do I have to participate in testing if I have already been vaccinated?

Health Information, Testing, and Quarantining

Q: I am required to get a COVID-19 PCR test prior to arriving on campus. When do I need to get tested?

A: All students (undergraduate, graduate, and adult students) residing or taking coursework on campus are required to have a PCR COVID-19 test prior to arrival on campus. If you have not already done so, upload this documentation by Friday, February 19. This is MANDATORY and must be completed or you will lose iLearn access on March 1.

Q: How and where do I get a COVID-19 test?

A: All Marist students, including both residential and commuter students, must undergo a PCR-based molecular test for COVID-19 before moving into a residence hall (residential students) or coming to campus for classes or other business (off-campus students).

While diagnostic testing at a health care facility is preferred, Marist recognizes that not all students have ready access to testing facilities and may need to utilize at-home testing kits to fulfill these requirements. Marist will accept FDA approved at-home testing kits for the purposes of pre-screening students prior to move-in. 

When registering for an at-home test, you will typically be asked a series of questions to determine eligibility for testing. If asked, students should check ‘yes’ to questions that inquire about residing in “congregate settings.”

Q: How do I report my test results?

Q: How do I get health documentation to Health Services?

A: Information should be uploaded to the Marist Health Services Patient Portal using the following link: marist.medicatconnect.com.

Q: I'm getting an error message when I try to upload health information to the patient portal; what should I do? 

A: Long file names and special characters cause errors during the upload process. Try shortening the name of your file and be sure there are only alphanumeric characters (letters and numbers). 

Q: Can I email my test results? 

A: Test results should not be emailed, per HIPAA requirements. All students (undergraduate, graduate, and adult students) residing or taking coursework on campus are required to have a PCR COVID-19 test done prior to arrival on campus, and the results must be provided by Friday, February 19.

Please follow above guidelines for reporting test results.

Q: What happens if a student is unable to get a COVID-19 test or hasn’t gotten their results back before their quarantine move-in date?

A: To protect the health and safety of the entire Marist community, there will be no exceptions to the pre-arrival testing requirement. Students who have not uploaded pre-arrival testing results will not be permitted to move into residence halls and take in-person classes until test results are submitted. These students will access their classes remotely in the interim.

Q: I have been vaccinated for COVID-19. Am I still required to show proof of a PCR test or to quarantine prior to arrival?

A: Yes, all students must obtain a non-rapid COVID-19 PCR test and, if appropriate, complete quarantine as per Marist College guidelines. While the COVID-19 vaccine is very effective, it is not 100%. For this reason, all students must submit documentation of a non-rapid PCR test prior to arrival on campus.  

Q: If I have already had COVID-19, what happens if my test still comes back positive like many often do? 

A: No pre-arrival test is required if there has been a positive test result within 90 days of the first day on campus. Please upload your test results to the Marist Health Services Patient Portal using the following link: https://marist.medicatconnect.com. A clinician will contact you once your case has been reviewed. 

Q: Can I have an antibody test instead?

A: You are welcome to have an antibody test. However, you will still be required to submit a PCR test.

Q: What if I had an antibody test done that shows I’ve already had COVID?  Do I still need to get a PCR test done?  

A: Yes, you will still need the PCR test to be completed.  This is the appropriate test to determine the presence of an active infection. Scientists do not yet know if having antibodies to the virus that causes COVID-19 can protect someone from getting infected again.  

Q: Are there exceptions to the testing policy?

A: No. In order to protect the health and wellness of the entire Marist population, every student must have a PCR test to ensure they do not have COVID-19. 

Q: My insurance/child’s insurance will not pay for another COVID-19 test. Do I still need the test; if so, who pays for it?

A: All students must obtain and submit documentation of a non-rapid PCR test prior to their arrival on campus. If insurance has declined to cover this test, students must arrange to pay for their test directly.

Q: If I am from a non-contiguous state and I get a negative PCR test, does that mean I can end my quarantine early?

A: Per Marist College policy, students from non-contiguous states cannot test out of quarantine. Students from these states must obtain a pre-arrival test prior to arrival on campus, quarantine for 10 days, and obtain a post-arrival test on day 8 of quarantine. If you have not already done so, upload your PCR test by Friday, February 19. This is MANDATORY and must be completed or you will lose iLearn access on March 1.

Q: Why is Marist requiring a self-quarantine for all students following their pre-arrival PCR test?

A: Marist is requiring a self-quarantine period prior to arrival on campus and after a PCR is taken to decrease the risk of pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic spread of COVID-19 on campus.

Q: What is Marist’s process for precautionary quarantine for students from non-contiguous states?

A: Marist's precautionary quarantine policy for students from non-contiguous students requires a pre-arrival negative PCR test, a 10-day precautionary quarantine period, and a post-arrival PCR test on day eight. For students quarantining on campus, all quarantine housing arrangements will be assigned by the College.

Q: In quarantine housing, what is the rate charged for food?  Can students opt out or they will be charged for 3 meals a day delivered to their room?

A: Additional details on quarantine housing will be communicated to students in early February.

Q: What modes of transportation will students in quarantine have access to if they don’t have cars?

A: Marist will operate shuttles to Conklin Hall, Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm. with an abbreviated weekend schedule. Shuttles are restricted to members of the Marist community. Zip cars are also available, as are Uber and Lyft.

Q: Can I quarantine in a different state?

A: Students may quarantine in contiguous states for a period of 10 days prior to arrival on campus. If a student chooses to quarantine off campus, they must still submit documentation of a non-rapid PCR test by Friday, February 19, as well as a PCR test result taken on day 8 of quarantine.

Q: Are students going to have to provide proof of pre-arrival quarantine?

A: Students who fulfill Marist quarantine requirements off campus will be required to attest to having completed this process. Any student who plans to quarantine off-campus should contact Housing@marist.edu by February 5. 

Q: What do I do if I am not cleared to come to campus by the start of classes? 

A: If Marist has not received your PCR COVID-19 test, you will not be cleared to come to campus. Each professor will have a list of the students not cleared to be on campus, and will be asked to leave the classroom to quarantine until test results are uploaded.

Q: Will there be COVID-19 vaccinations administered on campus if the rollout becomes available to this age group?

A: Marist is committed to working with our state and county partners to support the health of our campus and the Hudson Valley region. While the College is not a distribution site for COVID-19 vaccines, we would support all efforts to provide vaccines to our students, faculty, and staff. 

Q: Will I be required to participate in surveillance testing?

A: The College has expanded its surveillance testing program for the Spring 2021 semester. All students who are on campus and are not vaccinated will be required to participate in COVID-19 surveillance testing every 14 days. Students who do not comply with this requirement will lose clearance to attend in-person classes and/or come to campus.

Q: If a student signs up to do Marist quarantine housing and they find accommodations elsewhere, what is the deadline not to be billed/can they withdraw the initial request?

A: Students must confirm their intentions to quarantine in campus housing by February 5. 

Q: Where is the Marist Quarantine Housing Agreement located? Will it be sent to students who indicate they need to quarantine on campus before arrival? 

A: Students who request to complete their quarantine at Marist, must review and complete the housing agreement from the Office of Housing and Residential Life here: ilearn.marist.edu/portal/site/housing.

Students who opt to complete their quarantine in a location other than Marist will be required to attest at the time of move-in. You can access the quarantine attestation form on iLearn.

Q: Do parents or guardians need to show proof of testing before they are allowed on campus for move-in? 

A: Parents and guardians do not need to show proof of testing prior to coming to campus; however, they must complete a health screening prior to their visit to campus. As part of this screening, visitors must attest to whether they have tested positive for COVID, experience symptoms, or been in contact with individuals who have tested positive. 

Please be advised, families will not be allowed inside residential buildings. Due to the increased prevalence of COVID-19, access to residence halls is restricted to only students who reside within the facility.

Q: What is the process if a student tests positive during the semester? Where do they isolate?

A: Students will isolate at home if they can travel there safely and without potentially exposing other people. However, there is limited space on campus to house students who are unable to travel to their home residence.

Q: I am taking all online classes this semester; do I need to submit health requirements? 

A: Students who will be on campus for any reason (class, athletics, work, residency, etc.) during the spring semester must submit the required documentation.

Students who will be fully remote must complete the Spring 2021 online waiver. 

Q: Can I get tested for COVID-19 if I have no symptoms?

A: Members of the Marist community may access testing from MidHudson Regional Hospital by requesting an appointment through the following link: wmchealthnetwork.tfaforms.net/256.

Q: Why is flu vaccination required this year?

A: Flu vaccines will be required for all members of the Marist community. Exceptions will be made based on medical conditions and religious beliefs in compliance with legal requirements and standards of medical care. Flu shots are mandatory for all students and must be uploaded to Student Health Services no later than March 15, 2021. 

Q: I am in the process of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine series. I was advised not to have the flu shot during this process. What should I do to meet the flu requirement? 

A: Upload proof of your COVID vaccine to the patient portal to receive a temporary waiver for the flu vaccine requirement.  You will have six weeks from the second COVID vaccination date to receive the flu shot.  

Q: I do not have a medical or religious reason, but I do not want to take the flu vaccine. Will I be required to do so? 

A: Flu vaccines are required for everyone by March 15, 2021, unless the student provides documentation of a medical or religious exemption. Medical exemptions must be documented by a medical provider and religious exemptions should be notarized. 

Q: If I become ill, can I get tested at Marist?

A: Yes, Marist will arrange testing with our healthcare provider partner, MidHudson Regional Hospital a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health network. 

Q: If I am exposed, can I get tested at Marist?

A: Yes, Marist will arrange testing with our healthcare provider partner, MidHudson Regional Hospital a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health network. 

Q: With cars permitted on campus and students free to leave, will the college adopt a policy to routinely test for COVID-19 to identify systematic and asymptomatic people?

A: Marist is permitting cars on campus to provide students with transportation, should they need to return home to isolate/quarantine and to complete essential errands or work off-campus. All students will be expected to follow Marist and NYS guidelines for health and safety. Marist and its health partners, MidHudson Regional Hospital will test symptomatic individuals, as directed by medical professionals. 

Q: What happens if I am exposed to COVID-19 from one of my room or suitemates? 

A: Students who are defined as close contacts by the CDC will be required to quarantine for 14 days and submit to testing protocols, as required. 

Q: Should students who travel by plane be tested again once they arrive on campus since they could be exposed during their travel?

A: All students must adhere to New York State quarantine guidelines: coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory

Q: If a student is feeling ill, how is Marist distinguishing between students who need a COVID-19 test and those who do not? Is Health Services assessing this? How does quarantining and testing work with general illnesses?

A: Marist medical professionals will assess every instance of student illness and respond appropriately. 

Q: What is the metric Marist will use to determine when a “shutdown” is necessary?

A: Marist will continue to utilize state and local guidance to make operational decisions, but its own medical team will advise on operations specific to the College. 

Q: What mechanism will Marist use to screen students, prior to move-in, to ensure they have submitted their test results?

A: Marist students will be required to submit documentation of test results within 14 days prior to move-in.

Q: Are staff and faculty being tested? 

A: As per NYS guidelines, all Marist employees are required to complete a daily health screening tool, and will be referred to consult their medical provider as appropriate. In addition, all faculty and staff operating on campus who are not vaccinated are required to participate in surveillance testing. 

Q: Are we going to be lenient with test dates? Or will people with early test dates from restricted states be first for an on-campus test?

A: Please see the policy FAQ for the recommended dates for testing. 

Q: In the event that a student tests positive, how will they/their roommates/floor be isolated? How will we be able to pick them up?

A: Close contacts (as defined by the CDC) of any students who test positive will be subject to quarantine and/or testing. To complete quarantine/isolation requirements, students may use their personal vehicle to return home or parents can pick them up to transport them home. 

Q: How often will students be tested?

A: Our three-tiered testing approach (pre-arrival, symptomatic, and surveillance) was a key part of our success in controlling the spread of COVID-19 during the fall, and our medical team has recommended that we increase the surveillance testing program in the spring. All students who are on campus and are not vaccinated are required to participate in COVID-19 surveillance testing every 14 days. Q: In the event that a student or staff member tests positive, how will students that have come in contact with them be notified? Also, what is the protocol for students that have come in contact with someone on campus that tests positive? Especially if they live in a dorm in which they use common area showers/bathrooms?

A: Marist has an extensive contact tracing protocol, which will be coordinated with Dutchess County Department of Health and will follow all CDC guidelines. 

Q: Will the College provide isolation housing to students who test positive for COVID-19 during the school year?

A: Under limited circumstances, the College will provide accommodations for students who are unable to return home due to travel restrictions or other health restrictions. A separate residence facility has been dedicated to accommodate this need. 

Q: How frequently will faculty and staff be tested?

A: As per NYS guidelines, all Marist employees are required to complete a daily health screening tool, and will be referred to consult their medical provider as appropriate. In addition, all faculty and staff operating on campus who are not vaccinated are required to participate in surveillance testing. 

Academic Experience

Q: When do classes begin and end? 

A: The spring semester will begin on February 15 with remote coursework, while in-person classroom-based learning will begin on March 1.  The spring semester will conclude on May 28.

Q: How much of my coursework will be in person and how much will be online? 

A: This will vary according to each student’s particular schedule of courses. Every single class will have some online component to it, including the last week of classes and the week of finals. All classes will require the use of iLearn. Classrooms will operate at a reduced capacity (50% or less). Some classes with small enrollments may be able to meet in class with all students. Others will need to adopt a rotating schedule of students who participate in class and students who participate remotely.  

Q: When will students know which classes are online versus in the classroom?  How will they be informed?

A: Approximately 85% of all classes will have an on-ground/in-person component modified for safety precautions as per CDC guidelines. Individual schedules will be determined by student major. 

Students are able to look up the information in Banner Self Service. Courses have section numbers that correspond with the method of instruction. The section numbers and corresponding pedagogical methods are available on the Registrar website

Q: How is Marist handling classes during the spring semester?

A: Marist’s course offerings in Spring 2021 will take advantage of a range of teaching modalities, ranging from fully in-person to hybrid, fully remote, and fully online. Fully in-person will take place in classrooms large enough to hold the entire class while allowing for social distancing. Hybrid classes blend in-person and remote instruction. For instance, students could attend class in person on one day per week and participate via simulcast on the second day per week. Marist classrooms are currently being outfitted with cameras and microphones for this purpose. In another hybrid model, students participate in class once per week, and participate in directed discussion and watch pre-recorded video lectures for the second. Most undergraduate courses (about 85%) will be delivered using a hybrid blend of in-person and some remote instruction.

Fully remote classes will be taught by members of our faculty who have been approved for remote teaching. These courses will have class times and will be conducted synchronously via a platform like Zoom or WebEx. Lastly, Marist always has a complement of fully online courses, and Spring 2021 will be no different. These are courses that go through a rigorous Quality Matters framework and, following best practices, are for the most part asynchronous. Only students who opt-in to fully online courses will be enrolled in them.

Q: Is Marist planning to use tents to hold courses outside?

A: No, there is no formal plan for use of tents to host academic classes. 

Q: What if I want to only take online classes?

A:  Students who want to study fully virtually can find the information and procedures directly at this link: marist.edu/academics/registrar/registration-information. Most students wishing to take classes fully virtually should be able to do so, however, some courses, like clinicals, labs, and studio courses, contain elements that cannot be completed online. If you have any questions, please email your academic advisor for assistance. 

Q: I am taking all online classes this semester; do I need to submit health requirements? 

A: Students who will be on campus for any reason (class, athletics, work, residency, etc.) during the spring semester must submit the required documentation.

Students who will be fully remote must complete the Spring 2021 online waiver. 

Q: What if I decide to go fully online after add/drop?

A: How students attend class will be subject to individual faculty members’ attendance policies. Faculty members understand this is an unusual semester and care about your feelings of safety, and they will accommodate requests to participate remotely when reasonable to do so. Students seeking to study fully remotely are expected to make mutually agreeable arrangements with their instructors.

Q: May students take online classes but still live on campus? If so, what is that process?

A: While a student theoretically may enroll in online classes and live in the residence hall, our expectation is students who live on campus will have an on-ground/in-person academic experience. 

Q: If I am going to be a fully online student for the Spring 2021 semester, can I still come to campus? 

A: If you are registered as an online student for the Spring 2021 semester, you are not cleared to come to campus. If you need to come to campus at any point during the semester for any reason, you will need to fill out the mandatory health form prior to your arrival.  

Q: What is the difference between remote and online courses?

A: Fully remote classes will be taught by members of our faculty who have been approved for remote teaching. These courses will have class times and will be conducted synchronously via a platform like Zoom or WebEx. Marist always has a complement of fully online courses, and Spring 2021 will be no different. Q: What is the difference between blended asynchronous and flexible hybrid?

Q: Will the same students be virtual each week or will they rotate in-classroom students?

A: The schedule for in-classroom learning will rotate on a weekly basis. This information will be communicated by individual instructors. 

Q: Will I be required to maintain 6 feet of social distancing in classrooms? 

A: Consistent with the New York State recommended guidelines: students and faculty are to maintain at least 6 feet of distance to the extent possible when seated in a classroom setting or meeting, unless the core activity requires a shorter distance or if individuals are roommates. 

Q: Will I be required to wear a mask or gloves in academic buildings? 

A: All students and faculty must wear masks or face coverings in all academic buildings. The use of gloves is not required. Students who do not comply with this policy will be asked to leave the building by Security.   

Q: Will academic buildings be cleaned regularly? 

A: Guided by the latest research, we are modifying our cleaning protocols in both classrooms and student residence halls to mitigate the most likely means of transmission of the coronavirus.  This means that housekeepers will spend more time on high-touch surfaces, which our own testing and scientific studies indicate should remain the area of focus.  In the classroom, this change will increase the efficiency of cleaning and restore teaching time for each class period.  The reduced density of students and faculty waiting in between classes will be maintained.  We will rigorously clean classrooms three times a day and provide cleaning supplies in each classroom for individual use.  In the residence halls and classrooms, we will continue to use the same products that hospitals employ to sanitize their own facilities. 

Q: Will the Bookstore be open or only for pick up or will items be delivered to post office after paying online?

A: The Marist Bookstore will be open with capacity limitations to ensure social distancing. 

Q: Will the College supply personal protective equipment (PPE) to students? 

A: Yes, the Office of Safety and Security will provide two (2) cloth face coverings upon request. 

Q: If my child is sick and cannot go to class, can they attend online/remote so they do not miss class?

Yes, for instances when those classes are available. However, every class (e.g. labs) may not be available for online learning. As is always the case, students should work with their professors on individual course requirements.

Q: If my student has to quarantine, will they do remote/online courses?

Q: Will there be a Commencement ceremony for the class of 2020? 2021?

A: The Class of 2021 Commencement ceremony will take place May 29-31. As noted in a recent communication to the Class of 2020, the class has indicated that the overwhelming preference would be to wait to hold commencement until all could participate together in a large-scale, in-person commencement ceremony. Campus & Residential Life

Q: How many people can help students move in and is there a time limit?  Do we need to fill out a health form?

Due to the increased prevalence of COVID-19, access to residence halls is restricted to only students who reside within the facility.

If parents or other family members intend to visit campus to drop off their student, they must complete the Marist Visitor Form: marist.edu/coronavirus-guest-survey

Q: When will students who are moving in for the first time during the Spring 2021 semester receive their housing assignments?

A: Housing assignments for transfer and new students for Spring 2021 will be finalized by the first week of February.

Q: Can students from contiguous states move in early? Who should we reach out to about early move-in for students from contiguous states?

Q: Will the College provide quarantine housing to students who test positive for COVID-19 during the school year?

A: Under limited circumstances, the College will provide accommodations for students who are unable to return home due to travel restrictions or other health restrictions. A separate residence facility has been dedicated to accommodate this need. 

Q: What types of face coverings/masks are allowable on campus?

A: Marist requires that approved face coverings/masks be worn by all members of the Marist community on an ongoing, daily basis in all public and common areas. General community members should wear cloth/reusable masks, three-layer disposable medical face masks, or approved see-through masks.  Supplies are available through the Office of Safety and Security and can be requested by emailing PPE.requests@marist.edu. Please note: neck gaiters and/or masks with valves are not permitted on campus.  

Q: How will ID cards be distributed? 

A: Prior to arrival, students will be asked to submit a photo for their ID cards. If this is completed ahead of move-in, students will receive their ID cards when they receive their room key. 

Q: Will the Bookstore be open or only for pick up or will items be delivered to post office after paying online?

A: The Bookstore will be open extended hours during move in. It is strongly recommended to place your book orders on our website at Marist.bncollege.com and choose store pick up. You will receive an email when your order is ready for pick up. Our textbook aisles will be closed to the public.

Q: Is the post office open? What are the hours?

Due to the uncharacteristic high volume in packages coming into the mail room, we are expanding the hours at the Marist Post Office. Expanded hours for the Post Office are:

Academic Year:

  Monday - Thursday:  9:00 am to 6:00 pm

  Friday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

  Saturdays: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Non-Academic Year:

  Monday - Thursday:  8:30 am to 4:30 pm 

  Friday: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

  Saturday: Closed

Please note, social distancing guidelines must be followed when picking up your packages. 

Q: Will students be able to use the recreation facilities?

A: Recreational outdoor basketball to be permitted with masks required on the court.

Increased capacity for fitness centers, but not to exceed New York State’s 33 percent limit. McCann and McCormick Hall Fitness Centers are now open at 25 percent capacity. Sign up for a workout time at IMLeagues.com.

Q: Will Starbucks be open on campus?

A: The Starbucks in the Hancock Center will be open in Spring 2021.

Q: Why is the price the same for room/meal plan if students will be on-campus less time? Will the price be prorated?

A: The price for housing is determined on a semester basis. In light of the COVID pandemic, the price for housing in academic year 2021 includes costs associated with increased cleaning, sanitation, and security. The price for meal plans is determined by the number of meals purchased for the semester.

Q: When is the last day to receive a partial housing refund?  Can a student move in, and then change their mind? 

A: The last day to receive a housing refund is available here: marist.edu/academics/calendars

Q: Will I be able to visit my friend in another dorm?

A: Students residing in campus housing are permitted to visit with one another, including students from different residence facilities, provided that gathering size limits are followed and masks are worn. Off-campus guests, including commuter students, are still not permitted within any campus residence facility. Click here to view all of the visitation policies in the COVID-19 Code of Student Conduct Addendum. Students may continue to gather with students from other residence halls outdoors or in the dining hall.

Q: How are shared dorm bathrooms being modified for social distancing? Are any plexiglass partitions being installed between sinks? 

A: Housekeeping services have implemented an increased protocol for cleaning (twice daily) and disinfecting (three times daily) in all traditional residence hall bathrooms on campus. Touchless faucets have been installed in all shared traditional residence hall bathrooms. Additionally, partitions have been installed between shower stalls. 

Guided by the latest research, we are modifying our cleaning protocols in both classrooms and student residence halls to mitigate the most likely means of transmission of the coronavirus.  This means that housekeepers will spend more time on high-touch surfaces, which our own testing and scientific studies indicate should remain the area of focus.  The reduced density of students and faculty waiting in between classes will be maintained.  In the residence halls and classrooms, we will continue to use the same products that hospitals employ to sanitize their own facilities. 

Q: If a student decides to do all classes online, what happens to their assigned housing? 

A: Returning students who wish to complete all academic coursework online should contact housing@marist.edu to discuss housing options for the spring.  

Q: Where can I find the student required training like the staff are required to do? 

A: The social contract is a component of Marist’s COVID Code of Conduct. Students should complete the required online training here

Q: Where is the socially binding contract? 

A: All students are required to complete online training modules in regard to COVID-19, which outline the new policies and procedures put in place to protect the pack. As you’ve seen through the many emails we’ve sent over the last few weeks, there will be a lot of changes to our campus.

The training program includes the new COVID-19 Code of Conduct, which will be in place for the remainder of the pandemic. At the completion of the training module, you will be asked to click the link to confirm that you have read and understand the new requirements and agree to abide by these rules to ensure the safety of all community members.

Q: Are students permitted to work off-campus?

A: Yes.

Q: What are my Dining Plan options? Will they be the same as Fall 2020?

A: All information regarding dining options for Spring 2021 is available at maristdining.sodexomyway.com.

Q: One of Marist’s announcements stated that Grubhub delivery from the dining hall may be used. Are the delivery personnel employed by the campus? Will they be tested for COVID-19?

A: Sodexo employees will be delivering food ordered through the GrubHub app. In accordance with New York Forward requirements, all Sodexo employees are required to complete a daily health screening. Employees are restricted to deliver food to a designated location in all residence halls and will not have access to student living quarters. All Sodexo employees are required to follow Marist COVID protocols.  

Q: Will the Commuter Lounge still be open? Where can commuter students go for extended periods of time between classes?

A: The Commuter Lounge, along with various other spaces on campus, will be open for students and have been modified to ensure social distancing requirements. 

Q: Are students allowed to use their cars freely? Or only in the case of an emergency, e.g, if they need to travel home?

A: Cars are to be used for emergency situations or essential transportation needs such as food shopping, doctor appointments or employment off campus. The College strongly suggests that students stay on campus and not travel out of the area to avoid infection.

Q: Are shuttles owned or privately hired by Marist and for use only by Marist?

A: Shuttles are operated by Marist. Passengers will only be from the Marist Community. Marist will operate shuttles to Conklin Hall, Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm. with an abbreviated weekend schedule. Shuttles are restricted to members of the Marist community. Zip cars are also available, as are Uber and Lyft.

Q: Can my student still move in? If so, where?

A: Any queries regarding housing should be directed to housing@marist.edu.

Q: Are students from non-contiguous states expected to move in while taking classes? Can they move in February 1 and quarantine and then begin classes February 15 so students aren't moving in while taking classes?

A: Students returning to campus from non-contiguous states are permitted to move in between February 11-14, prior to the start of classes on February 15. 

Q: Can students who are required to quarantine drop off their belongings, prior to going to quarantine?

A: Students will be permitted to drop off their belongings into their assigned room prior to move in into quarantine housing. All individuals will be required to follow College policies (including wearing masks/face coverings, social distancing, and CDC-recommended hygiene practices). Students must e-mail housing to request access to their assigned residence hall prior to moving into quarantine housing. 

*Please note, parents/family members are not permitted in the residence hall

Q: Are drop off dates flexible due to the family's schedule?

A: We ask all families for their cooperation in adhering to move-in dates and times so we can ensure a safe move-in process for all students.

Q: During quarantine, will students have their own rooms? 

A: The College will provide all quarantine housing assignments by February 1. 

International Student Services

Q: How can international students stay updated on federal policies regarding student visas? 

A: Conditions around student visas are determined by the federal government and can change without notice. The Office of International Student Services will work to keep students abreast of changes. Marist also encourages international students to visit https://www.ice.gov/coronavirus and click on “Non-immigrant Students” and then “Frequently Asked Questions” for the most current information on federal policy.  

Q: What if I am a senior who is interested in Optional Practical Training (OPT)?  Can I take on-line courses in my country of origin and still apply for OPT? 

A: No. Seniors who are interested in Optional Practical Training (OPT) must complete their senior year in the United States. OPT eligibility requires that students take on-campus/on-ground (or hybrid) courses in the United States for your last year of classes. Online course work from a students’ country of origin in the final year at Marist excludes then from applying for OPT.  International students must be in the United States to apply for OPT.

Student Financial Services

Q: If I defer one semester, how will my financial aid be determined?

A: If a student defers for one semester, their financial aid package will be prorated by one semester. 

Q: If I defer a year, do I have to reapply for a new financial aid package?

A: Yes, students must reapply for financial aid each year. 

Q: If I decide to go online, will it impact my financial aid?

A: Financial aid may be impacted if a student decides to complete their academic coursework online. Please contact Student Financial Services to discuss your specific situation. 

Q: If I make my payment and then receive my schedule and my classes are all or mostly remote/online, will I be able to get a housing and room and board refund?

A: Students who are living in housing will not be eligible for a housing refund if they remain in housing for the spring semester. Approximately 85% of all classes will have an on-ground/in-person component modified for safety precautions as per CDC guidelines.  If a student chooses to complete their academic coursework from home, they may be eligible for prorated board which are outlined in the academic calendar. 

Return to Campus Testing

Q: Why do I need to be tested upon return to campus?

A: It is College policy (communicated on March 19th) that any student who leaves the campus community for any period of time over 24 hours must attend surveillance testing within 24 hours of return to campus. In addition, they must practice a self-imposed quarantine (e.g. take classes online, eat in their room, limit interactions with others) until test results are received by the College. This policy is in place to stop any potential outbreaks of COVID-19 on campus.

Q: What is included in a “self-imposed quarantine"?

A: The College is requiring students returning to campus to take classes online, eat in their room, limit interactions with others, and take other general precautions to limit potential exposure until test results are received by Marist, generally within 24-48 hours.

Q: How do I know when I should report for return to campus testing?

A: Any students who did not participate in surveillance testing from March 29- April 8 (except those who were previously notified of an exemption) will be assigned a date to return to campus and complete mandatory arrival testing. This notification will be sent via email by COVIDSurveillance.Testing@marist.edu.

Return testing times will be staggered from April 12 - April 16 to allow time for processing results and contact tracing.

Q: What if I’m unable to report for testing on my assigned date and time?

A: Students who are unable to come to testing at their scheduled date and time should report on any of the testing days AFTER their scheduled appointment day. Please do not arrive to campus until you can appear for surveillance testing within 24 hours.

Q: Do I need to notify anyone if I am going to appear for testing at a time other than my scheduled time?

A: No, it is not necessary to notify anyone. When you swipe your ID at the surveillance testing site, we will be notified that you have appeared for testing.

Q: When will I be cleared to come to campus?

A: You should continue self-quarantine until your COVID test results are received. If you receive a positive result, you will be contacted by Health Services and given instructions for next steps.

Q: What are the surveillance testing hours and where do I report for testing?

A: Testing occurs in the Allied Health building. As of Monday, April 19, updated testing hours will be Monday-Friday from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Q: I received an arrival testing appointment and I also have another surveillance testing appointment this week. What should I do? 

A: Please appear for both testing times. One meets the arrival requirement and the other meets the regular surveillance testing requirement.

Q: Can I get tested off campus to meet the arrival testing requirement?

A: No. Health Services is not accepting outside tests for return to campus testing.  

Q: Can I attend class earlier in the week if my arrival test isn't scheduled until later in the week?

A: No. You will not be cleared to come to class until the College has received a negative result from an on-campus test for you.
