Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Curriculum and Schedule

Students can complete the program in 2 years in a full-time, accelerated plan or through a more flexible and less time-intensive 3-year schedule. The sequence is subject to change.

The curriculum includes knowledge about the counseling profession and ethics, evaluation and assessment, counseling theory and skills training with an emphasis in multicultural perspectives, research methodologies in counseling, and 700 hours of experience in the practice of mental health counseling under the supervision of licensed professionals. To ensure the highest level of training, experiential activities using role-playing, recording of mock counseling sessions, and group and family therapy sessions simulations will be required.

Students start the full-time program in the Fall. Both two-year and a less time intense three-year program formats are available. All courses are in the evening, with the exception of two internship courses which start at 3:30 pm. Two-year students take an ambitious 12-credit hour Fall and Spring format, plus two part-time Summer semesters. Three-year students take a full-time nine-credit-hour format for two years, two Summer semesters, and a part-time six-credit hour Fall and Spring semester in the third year. All student complete field placements in addition to classes. Explore the curriculum more completely here.
